Form follows function.” – A common phrase heard throughout the architectural design world.
At ZDS Architecture and Interior Design we believe there is an even deeper interface that drives truly memorable designs— the connection between people and projects. This unified approach to having the right people collaborating on the right projects will always lead to an impactful design rooted in experience. ZDS is proud of the multi-disciplinary team we have built. Each of our team members has their own story which has brought ZDS a unique set of talents, a proven history of working together across disciplines, and a diverse set of clients.
Form Follows Function. – A Common Phrase Heard Throughout The Architectural Design World.
To further this approach, ZDS has extended its family by bringing in our new DC Design Director Jason Maringola. His years of hospitality experience has led Jason to being recognized nationally as one of the rising stars of the interior design world with a nod from Boutique 18, as well as countless speaking engagements and interviews. Jason’s work highlights a passion of storytelling through great design as seen in some of his notable projects such as J.W. Marriott Bonnet Creek Resort & Spa, and The Ritz Carlton in Fort Lauderdale. His proven ability to specialize in creating timeless interiors that are perfectly tailored to the clients’ needs has the entire ZDS team excited to offer his expertise to our nationally recognized studios.
Despite the challenges this past year has brought to our industry, our ZDS team completed several exceptional projects both in Providence, Rhode Island and Washington, DC. Having the ability to bring to life new projects for our clients during such uncertain times was deeply satisfying.
The renovation and repurposing of Providence’s historic Exchange Building was a close project close to home that garnered nationwide attention. Partnering with Paolino Properties, ZDS was task to transform this historic 1887 Exchange Building into the spectacular Beatrice Hotel, a nod to the owners mother — a 47-room boutique hotel with incredible city views, luxury rooms, restaurants, and a rooftop lounge.
Using the building’s connection to the 100 Westminster Office Building, ZDS created the hotel’s piėce de rėsistance — a high-ceiling, awe-inspiring glass atrium with one-of-a-kind chandelier. The hotel also features two restaurants, and an upscale rooftop bar and lounge, as well as a fitness center. While retaining the historic aesthetic of the Exchange Building, ZDS was able to bring it into the modern era—and give it new life.
The ZDS’ touch also brought a multi-unit residential penthouse into the spotlight in our nation’s capital. The M Street Residences (luxury units in the heart of logan circle) project saw the creation of an eight-story penthouse residential building in the heart of Logan Circle. Our design team was able to maximize the existing space to create 49 living units, while completely blending into the existing cityscape. Truly a remarkable project, M Street Residences features exterior balconies, upper-level terraces, alley parking, and rooftop amenity space, along with surprisingly large living areas, with spacious kitchens and abundant natural light.
While efforts like the Beatrice and M Street stand out, they are not out of the ordinary for ZDS. Creating spaces that delight our clients and which exemplifies both form and function is what we do. Contact ZDS today, let our collaborative thinking and effective design create an impactful design for you!
